Often considered by players as the “default” and “boring” Ancestry, humans are actually the most diverse and divergent of all known peoples. Communities of Humans may manifest in wildly different ways.
Humans are also notable for their ability to crossbreed with the majority of other Ancestries. Traditionally considered to be a hallmark of their common genetic purity, recent scholarship has popularized the theory that Humans are actually the most genetically muddled: it is likely that Humans emerged as a populous and ubiquitous Ancestry due to continued mixing and dilution of the other common Ancestries. Depending on the beliefs of a particular person, they may lump in the “Half” Ancestries as Humans, or Human+, while others will deny Human status based on perceptions of an individual’s ears being too pointed or skin shade too olive. Perhaps more people simply don’t care to differentiate openly at all. The industriousness of Humans, combined with this crossbreeding capability, have been major reasons of the natural success of Integrated Society. Therefore, in all but the most closed and homogenous communities, Humans of all flavors are present. If they did not contribute heavily to a city’s early development, they at least showed up to turn a profit or paint the skyline shortly after.
Humans can often rally sympathy when they want to, and go unnoticed when they need to.
